D’or to Door Fine Wine Imports Ltd was incorporated as a Limited Company on 31 March 2006 and began trading later that year, in October. The company is run by husband and wife team Mick and Diane McLintic, the company’s only directors.
The formation of D’or to Door is the culmination of a life’s work and ambition for Mick and Di, who have spent many of their annual holidays together visiting vineyards and talking to producers with a view to finding the very best suppliers for their business.
To fully immerse themselves in the culture of wine, Mick and Di subscribe to the Wineshare group of vineyards, this allows them access to producers, tastings, dinners and many other diverse, wine related activities. They visit the vineyards regularly and enjoy joining other pickers for the annual vendange.
Unlike most other wine retailers, D’or to Door personally import a healthy proportion of the wines they sell. Their own imports currently include all the red, white and sparkling Burgundies on the list, they have also finalised a deal with a Bordeaux Negociant to import their own claret from mid 2009. The Bordeaux collection will include some beautiful wines purchased en primeur, it will also include some Cru Classé wines from older vintages.
Although both Mick and Di are avid wine lovers and have an expansive but informal knowledge of the subject, they decided, as they would be running a business rather than just enjoying a hobby, to enrol in a Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET) course at the local college.
Di has successfully passed the Intermediate course but unfortunately does not have enough time to dedicate herself to further studies. Mick passed both the Intermediate and Advanced Certificates several years ago and has recently passed the WSET Diploma, allowing him to become an Associate Member of the Institute of Wines and Spirits.
Prior to running D’or to Door, Mick spent 30 years in the aerospace industry. Diane has had several previous jobs, including full time mother and, latterly, market researcher. In his spare time Mick enjoys fly fishing and has been a member of the England International team in recent years. Diane spends any spare time she has running the family smallholding and walking her Patterdale Terrier, Scamp.
